Horseshoe falls
The American FallsWe're standing on the Canadian side and right behind the American Falls is America. It was weird to be in one country and just look across the river at another country.
Notice what looks like a little boat on the right side of the falls...
It is the Maid of the Mist tour as it is entering the bottom of the Horseshoe Falls. All I could think of was the movie Bruce Almighty where he does the news segment on the Maid of the Mist.
Here's Jared on the Maid of the Mist
Me on the Maid of the Mist in front of the American Falls
Jared and I together as we are approaching the Horseshoe Falls
Once you get right up to the falls, you can't see anything in front of you, it's like being in a terrible storm. I hid out under the covered area. I told Jared afterwards that I'm glad I did it because it's the tourist thing to do when you come to Niagara. But, there's nothing I really enjoy about being cold and wet, so I don't think I'll be doing it again for fun. It's amazing watching how fast the water goes over the falls.
Part of the area is like a boardwalk or amusement park, called Clifton Hill.
The big Ferris Wheel at Clifton Hill, which we rode that night. It had some amazing views, but we didn't get very good pictures because it was raining a little.
The Rainbow Bridge - the bridge connecting the US and Canada
We had dinner at the Skylon Tower. The dining room revolves while you are eating, we had amazing views the whole time.
And another
We could also see our hotel from the Skylon Tower. This gives you an idea how high up the Skylon Tower really is.
Further down river from the falls, the river developed a whirlpool. And you can see the cables for the aero-car that will take you out over the whirlpool. We passed on that ride.
Another view of the whirlpool and the areo-car.
On the other side of the whirlpool
The whirlpool again- what I wish you see is that down on the left hand side there was a man on the rocks fishing. We couldn't figure out how he got down there to fish.

They offer tours where you ride a jet boat up to the whirlpool. Jared really wanted to do this, but I was a little too nervous to try it.
We drove up to an area called Niagara on the Lake, on Lake Ontario. It was beautiful, we were there right at sunset. Right behind me across the lake is Toronto. I believe across the lake to the right of where I'm standing is Rochester, NY.

It was just like you would expect a New England town to look, tons of Bed and Breakfasts, little shops, beautiful golf courses. That's where we want to stay if we get to go back.

Great pictures. Looks like it was a great trip!
amazing! what a wonderful anniversary!
Oh how fun and romantic! Vim and I were just talking about how we would love to go there.
Those pictures are awesome! What a neat trip. We went there when I was 9. I have the best memories of skipping rocks on that lake while the sun set and eating fish and chips. It was fun to see your picture of it.
How fun! I just realized we ate in that same restaurant. Funny!
Hey Becky,
That looks like a great trip! I am itching to take a little trip with just Nathan, and this makes me want to go even more!
To answer your question, Nathan was in the Canadian Rockies, outside of Calgary. So not exactly near where y'all were. Actually, I would definitely recommend going to Banff National Park, if you ever get the hankerin' to go. It is spectacular. We went there for our honeymoon. Nathan goes every summer with his advisor to teach a geology course for either oil professionals or the Harvard undergrads.
Becky so glad you all had a great time! I went to the falls when I was a senior in high school...we had swimming nationals in Buffalo NY in Feb...so when we went it was COLD!!!! I'd like to go back when it's a little bit warmer!
Woah...No kids eh? I can't remember the last trip like that we went on! As much as we love them i can imagine it was a breather just to get some time with your hubby and not having to interrupt him to do things like...clean up food that got smashed in your carpet from dinner that somehow ended up on the bottom of someone's foot...and random things like that :)
